Diversity program at World of Photonics Congress 2023

Join us for a diversity, equity, and inclusion program at World of Photonics Congress 2023. This program will span five days and include a range of activities, such as workshops, panel discussions, keynote speeches, and networking events.

These activities will cover a variety of topics, including:

• The importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the photonics industry
   
• Support for early-stage researchers
   

  • Early-Stage Researcher Sessions on Monday 26 June and Wednesday 28 June

    • The European Optical Society, in collaboration with the CLEO®/ Europe-EQEC co-organizers, will hold this Early-Stage Researcher Session, offering an opportunity for PhD students and Postdoctorate Students to hold a short pitch on their upcoming poster

    • Chaired by Emiliano Descrovi and Paolo Biagioni
       

  • EOS Early Career Women in Photonics Award on Tuesday 27 June
    • presented to honor a young female scientist who has made outstanding contributions to photonics
    • The award consists of a diploma and an honorarium of (€2500) 

• DiversiWiki session
• Workshop exploring the concept of privilege.

The program will be open to all attendees of LASER World of PHOTONICS 2023 and will be run in collaboration with several organizations, including the European Optical Society (EOS), European Physical Society (EPS), Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft Lasertechnik und Photonik e.V. (WLT), Optica( formerly OSA), IEEE Photonics Society, and SPIE, the International Society for Optics and Photonics.

Overall, this diversity, equity, and inclusion program aims to raise awareness of the importance of diversity and inclusivity within the photonics community and provide attendees with the tools and strategies they need to create a more welcoming and inclusive industry for all.
